Description

Using the Italic hand as a starting point, we’ll work our way towards abstraction to embrace it as our ally. Through a series of targeted exercises, we’ll break free from conventional patterns and explore fresh letterforms and personalized compositions.

We will start by deconstructing the letters, breaking them apart in an uncommon way to the point where they become abstract shapes. This process liberates us from the instinct to read each letter, opening doors to new creative possibilities.

We’ll then put our focus on each stroke, experimenting with speed, proportion, rhythm, contrast, various tools, etc. As we play with these elements, we’ll cultivate our own expressive visual language and learn how to integrate these newfound shapes into our compositions.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll discuss movement, rhythm, breathing, intention, and the quality of the line.
