Pat Blair - Ornamental Penmanship Up Close, Capital Letters - Oct 3, 9 & 16, 2025

This class is for those who would like to master and understand the beautiful letters of Ornamental Penmanship, and what makes them strong, yet graceful. Ornamental Penmanship evolved from the simpler Spencerian Script, with the addition of more dramatically shaded capitals and larger forms. We are studying the CAPITAL LETTERS in this class, with an eye for detail and strong analysis of the forms. The Capital Letters of Ornamental Penmanship depart from the simpler lower case letters in their more dramatic shading and size. Curvature is important in their formation, and we will study this very closely. Exercises to help create muscle memory will be offered, to help with executing the smooth pen movement to achieve this grace. Multiple variations will be offered to give the student some design options, but all with the same attention to form detail.
