Journey back in time to discover the elegant Uncial script, a rounded majuscule hand that shaped early manuscripts and became the dominant book hand from the 4th to 8th centuries. You'll learn its flowing forms and understand why it was so perfectly suited for parchment and vellum. We will explore its unique letterforms, understand its development and appreciate the decorative elements that make Uncial manuscripts true works of art.
We will use a broad edge pen to write uncial which is the correct tool to use for the script. But them we will explore the same script with a pointed pen, highlighting the nuances and changes in the letterforms due to a different tool.
Whether you're a beginner or looking to expand your calligraphic repertoire, this workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to this foundational hand, offering insights into their historical significance and practical techniques to bring their beauty to your own work.
