Description

We will capitalise on what we can already do with inspiration from original works by various 20th century calligraphers with their refined and uncomplicated works from when calligraphy was enjoying a revival. With so many different tools, techniques and decorative elements nowadays it's not easy to know when to stop. We will apply basic elements of design and good lettering to achieve sophisticated and stylish pieces, making the most of the calligraphy. For everyone, it’s always good to go back to basics, but with more experience you’ll learn a quicker route to making better and more informed design decisions. We will be send images of our work to Josie so they can all be looked at together. Supply List:

• cartridge paper (P25)
• pencil, eraser, ruler, sharpener (PL38, E13, S270, PL13)
• a range of tools of your choice, for example: broad-edge or pointed nibs, pencils, brush pens, ruling or folded metal pens, flat brushes, etc.(N02, N04, N09, N207, N113, N93, N220, N22, N30, N155, BR103, BR24)
• inks, paints, etc to write with, including black (I70, I08, I28, HG749, WNG1)
• scissors or craft knife & cutting mat (S1662, S417, S504)
• re-positional glue or stick glue/PVA (S391, S340)
• layout paper to prepare different paste-up designs (P32, P09-50, P203)
• better quality paper for a final piece (PS01, PA03, PA42, PS118, PA112)
• 3 or 4 different phrases/quotes of between 3 and 30 words.
• Mobile phone, camera or tablet to take photos of your work and send to the tutor
