Supply List:

1. Brushes

(1) Broad-Edged Brushes
All brushes are good, but at least one where the edge has to be true and as square as possible.
One should be big 1-2 inches

My recommendation is as below.
W&N 995=1/2” (BR01) or Raphael Kaerell 8796 #10 or #12 (BR24) (Quality and prepared as in video:
http://bit.ly/jsbrush).
Others:
W&N SCEPTRE GOLD 1/4’’ FLAT BRUSH (BR71), W&N PRO WATERCOLOR SABLE RIGGER BRUSH (BR29)

You may later want to work at smaller sizes. Here are my recommendations:
Sign Painters use Sho-card brush such as Rekab #5 (BR12)(Optional. Sold at John Neal Books) or Handover 2102 Sable Chisel Writer (#2)

There are also synthetic versions: W&N Cotman (BR30)

(2) Pointed Brushes (Optional) W&N Series 7 (#000, #00, #2) (BR28), Raphael Kolinsky 8408
Chinese Brushes if you have them.

2. Ink/Pigment

1) A container of Nicker Poster Color (Black) for brush. If you are going to practice a lot, it is good to purchase 2 of these. Gouache will work as well, but the poster paint is closer to the consistency for paletting. (S1022)

(2) Pelikan 4001 (I04) and/or Higgins Eternal (I08) for Pen writing. Optional: Gouache (S1621, SG27) (a couple of colors), Sumi ink stick & stone (IS11, IS04, IS40, IS19)

(3) Bottled Sumi (Optional. Hopefully, it does not dry shiny.) (I70)

3. Pens

(1) Broad Nibs
Brause or Mitchell (multiple sizes from small to medium) (N02, N04)

(2) Automatic Pens (N27) (or equivalent), and Ruling Pens you have (N22, N155)

(3) Pointed Pens (optional)
More on the stiffer side. Here are some I recommend: Nikko G (N113), Tachikawa G (N137), Gillott (22, 303 & 404) (N72, N74), Hunt 22 (N93), Hunt 56 (N86), Esterbrook 358, Leonardt Principal EF (N120)

4. Paper

(1) Kraft paper will be provided (with materials fee) allowing you to do a lot of practice without the fear of going through all of your paper. If you wish to work on other papers, then bring those.

(2) Smoother paper for ink/pen. Bond paper is fine if it does not bleed. Something like Canson Pro-Layout Marker Pad (P32) or Boris Layout Pad (Borden & Riley #37) (P09). Size roughly 11 x 14 inches (28 cm x 35 cm).
Optional: HP watercolor paper of your choice (Arches Text Wove, Zerkall, MBM, Fabriano, W&N, etc.) (PS01, PS104, PS118)

5. Pencils

2B-HB (for drawing/writing) 2H-4H (for ruling line) (PL38)

6. Monoline Pens

Such as Sakura Pigma Micron (M219, M218, M217) or Copic Multi Liner (Black #02, #01, or #005), Speedball B5 or B6 (N16) (or maybe (optional) the square nibs A series might work) Or a favorite fountain pen. (FP250, FP112, FP222)

7.Words/Texts

Some as short as 2-3 words, a sentence or two, and other texts that are longer, and will form a block of text. Also: A title of a book, a film or aplay. Or maybe a title from a favorite poem.
